Quran: Perfect or Imperfect?
written by Sayed Iman
Muslims believe that the Quran is a divine book and it is completely Allah’s words and Muhammad or any other human has not added or removed a word from it. Muslims state that the Quran is miraculously perfect and impossible to imitate. They believe Quran contains all necessary science, knowledge and wisdom. But in reality, the Quran is a book of errors, contradictions and stupidities. The chapters (Suras) of the Quran do not have any sorts of reasonable order according to importance or chronology. The Verses (Ayats) are also disorderly arranged. It is basically a book of dos and don'ts, with huge rewards for followers and cruel punishments for non-followers. Certainly, the Quran is not a book written by any intelligent person.
Science disproves the Quran. For example the Quran and the Theory of Evolution are not compatible. The descriptions of creation in the Quran are based on a childish story which says the universe created by Allah in six days:
[Al-Hadid 57:4] “It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you wherever you are. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.”
In the early years of Islam when Muhammad was under severe pressure from Maccans he admitted the recognition of three Arabian goddesses Lat, Uzza, and Manat along with Allah:
[An-Najm 53:19-22] “Now tell me about Al-Lat, Al-Uzza, and Manat, The third one, another goddess. What! For you the males and for him the females! That indeed is an unfair division.”
After few years When Muhammad gained power he claimed that Satan tempted him to say those verses on Arabian goddesses!
There are many verses in the Quran about Muhammad’s personal life and his wives. Why should a book which claims to be ‘perfect for all humans in all time’ has extensive ridiculous parts about Muhammad and his wives?
[Al-Ahzab 33:37] “And [remember, O Muhammad], when you said to the one on whom Allah bestowed favour and you bestowed favour, Keep your wife and fear Allah, while you concealed within yourself that which Allah is to disclose. And you feared the people, while Allah has more right that you fear Him. So when Zayd had no longer any need for her, We married her to you in order that there not be upon the believers any discomfort concerning the wives of their adopted sons when they no longer have need of them. And ever is the command of Allah accomplished.”
The Quran utterly violates basic human rights. Men and women are not equal in the Quran. Men are superiors “in charge of women” and women should be “devoutly obedient” to men:
[An-Nisa 4:34] “Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.”
The Quran describes the ultimate goal of creation as absolute obedience of Allah and it dictates to all Muslims to unquestionably warship Allah and obey all his commands. Shockingly, the Quran also establishes a divine status for Muhammad and gives him the same authority as Allah. Muhammad is not only a messenger of Allah but also in total charge of Muslims and the owner of wealth and life of all his followers. Why should Allah give such an authority to Muhammad? Why Muhammad is absolutely untouchable? And above all, why don’t Muslim challenge or even question such a dictatorial authority?
Islam literally means ‘submission’. Muslims have submitted themselves to Islam and its ‘prophet’. Islam opposes the will and thoughts of the individual; there is no choice of one's own. Muslims have been deprived from questioning and challenging the Quran. Consequently, they have blindly followed the Quran for centuries although they have found numerous errors, inaccuracies and imperfections in it.
